You will receive independent mentoring, support through to Chartership and the opportunity to gain responsibility on a range of exciting projects.
What you’ll be doing
As a Graduate Building Physics Consultant, you will provide technical support and consultancy services in building physics, energy efficiency, sustainability, and other assessment methods such as NABERS. Your role will contribute to the development and implementation of high-performance building solutions as the UK shifts from a compliance-focused culture to a performance-focused one in pursuit of net-zero carbon buildings. Working alongside senior consultants and engineers, you will assist various clients and projects in achieving their sustainability goals.
- Conduct building physics analyses and simulations using industry-standard software and tools,
- Contribute to the development of energy efficiency strategies, sustainable design solutions, and thermal comfort assessments,
- Assist in conducting Daylight, Sunlight and Overshadowing assessments, U-value and condensation risk assessments, Thermal bridging Calculation, SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) calculations, SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) calculations, Energy and Sustainability Statements assessments, Dynamic Simulation Modelling (DSM) calculation, CIBSE Loads Calculation, CIBSE TM49/TM52 Overheating Assessment, Internal Daylight and Sunlight Simulation, Glare Simulation, Climate Based Daylight Modelling (CBDM) Simulation, CIBSE AM10 Natural Ventilation Simulation, Passive Design Simulation, Building Bulletin 101 (B101) Simulation, Low and zero carbon feasibility study, Operational Energy Assessment, Water efficiency calculation, NABERS UK Assessment and BREEAM Assessment.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate building physics principles into design and construction processes
- Continuously develop your knowledge and skills in building physics and related fields through training, research, and professional development activities.
- Ensure adherence to project budgets and timelines, as well as compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
What you’ll bring
Skills
- Proficiency in building physics analysis and simulation tools such as IESVE, Elmhurst, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, One Click LCA and Microsoft Office Suite e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc
- Knowledge of building regulations, standards, and codes (e.g., BREEAM, Passivhaus)
- Experience with climate-based daylight modelling, thermal comfort analysis, and energy assessments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Collaboration and teamwork skills
- Time management and organisational skills
Knowledge
- Building physics principles, including heat transfer, and air movement
- Energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies
- Sustainable design strategies and low-carbon solutions
- Construction materials, methods, and building systems
- Relevant environmental and energy-related legislation
Experience
- A bachelor's or master’s degree in building physics, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Involvement in professional organisations or industry associations related to building physics, energy efficiency, or sustainability
