The team:
This is an opportunity for a Heritage Consultant who has a broad range of specialisms to join our dynamic Heritage Team. The team's success has been built on helping Clients deliver sustainable, viable and implementable schemes on complex sites across multiple sectors. BWB offer tangible career progression, with clear frameworks and competencies. Field archaeologists or heritage professionals with relevant transferable skills who are looking to explore a new career in consultancy will also be considered. The vacancy is within our Leeds office, but you would be working on multiple projects, across the UK.
BWB’s Heritage Team deliver a range of services for projects that vary in scale and include infrastructure, housing and renewable development. BWB’s involvement ranges from early feasibility, pre-planning surveys and written assessments through to developing scopes for a range of fieldwork opportunities which we then implement and monitor, resulting in the successful discharge of planning conditions.
You will be contributing to the management of projects across multiple sectors, providing consultancy advice to Clients, helping in the development of fieldwork scopes and the production of project designs for fieldwork, producing heritage assessments, and helping to prepare fee proposals and tenders.
We welcome applications from field archaeologists or heritage professionals with relevant transferable skills who are looking to explore a new career in consultancy. BWB will develop you as a consultant. We value professional accreditation such as CIfA and/or IHBC or a candidate willing to work to towards accreditation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting Clients on projects both locally and throughout the UK as required;
- Providing archaeological/heritage services during all aspects of the development cycle;
- Preparing fee proposals and tenders and exploring new business opportunities;
- Contributing to the management of projects across multiple sectors;
- Independently delivering archaeological/heritage projects with senior oversight;
- Producing archaeological/heritage assessments and reports;
- Providing consultancy advice to internal and external Clients and stakeholders;
- Dealing directly with sub-contractors, Clients and stakeholders;
- Developing fieldwork methodologies and managing the process from its implementation, including sub-contractor supervision, through to its completion;
- Managing multiple projects with concurrent deadlines and competing demands;
- Communicating and working effectively as part of a team, but with a degree of autonomy expected;
- Delivering a high-quality service to Clients, with cost-effective and innovative solutions; and
- Working collaboratively, inputting into projects across the BWB Offices.
What you’ll bring:
- A degree in an Archaeological/Heritage related subject;
- Experience or knowledge of a wide variety of heritage reports, including Desk-Based Assessments, Heritage Appraisals, Specifications, Written Schemes of Investigation, Project Designs, and chapters for Environmental Statements;
- A good overall level of knowledge of British archaeology and fieldwork techniques;
- Excellent report writing, verbal & written communication skills;
- Experience in using GIS;
- Experience of working independently and managing own workload;
- Proven experience of delivering projects to time with no compromise on quality and within cost constraints;
- Ability to project manage with a strong focus on Client care and delivery;
- Skills and ability to work within high performing teams; and
- Willingness to travel and a full driving license are essential to the role.
