Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager with experience from within the Infrastructure or Development sector to join our team as a Principal Consultant depending on experience in one of our key offices in Nottingham, Birmingham or Manchester Office.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing part of the BWB Consulting business, the Project Management Group where you will have responsibility for supporting and supplementing our Team in the delivery of projects in the Infrastructure Sector (Highways, Rail and Utilities) and Development Sector (Earthworks, Land Remediation and Buildings) including Central Government, Local Government, Education, Leisure and Blue Light Sectors.
The ideal candidate will have strong commercial knowledge and understanding of cost consultancy and quantity surveying duties, with relevant experience of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
A candidate with experience of project management, contract administration and a commercial management bias would be advantageous when working with our range of clients.
What you’ll bring
- Excellent written and oral communicator, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
- The ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and cohesively as part of an experienced team within BWB and collaboratively as part of a Multi-disciplinary Team with other Consultants.
- Fully conversant with the MS 365 suite of applications and highly proficient in the use of MS Excel.
- Strong Client facing experienced individual, ideally degree qualified in Quantity Surveying and holds Cost Management experience.
- Qualified or working towards MRICS with an appropriate degree or minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
- Professional experience within a consultancy environment is essential.
- Practical experience in Rail Sector or Civils Infrastructure projects up to £25m.
- Responsible for developing pre-contract cost estimates, with experience in undertaking feasibility studies and options appraisals.
- Experience in managing contracts in a post-contract environment, including using JCT and NEC experience and sub-contractor/consultant management.
- Supporting our Project Managers in the preparation of Early Warnings (EW), Compensation Events (CE) and Project Manager’s Communications (PMI).
- Ability to analyse project costs and benchmarking.
- Provide a professional, first-class, consistent, and effective cost management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
- Schedule and conduct project meetings, including taking project records and distributing them to project stakeholders. Including site attendance during critical stages of work.
- Manage project change, risks and contingency within the project life cycle and provide all cost, contingency and programme details. Including the development of contract assessments and notifications ensuring applications for payment are justified and accurate.
- Ability to draft reports for Clients, communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical clients.
- Ability to represent BWB and our Clients at Senior Project Governance Level.
- Experience in providing the role on behalf of Funders, providing Project Assurance services, is desirable.
