Working within our Rail Signalling team will offer you the opportunity to work on a range of signalling technologies including mechanical, relay based, and computer based interlockings, in a variety of light and heavy rail projects.
What you’ll be doing
Working within our Rail Group as a Signalling Associate Director, you will be responsible for the coordinating signalling engineering works, managing interfaces between various railway disciplines within the project and team. You will be required to ensure design is delivered to the highest quality, managing contractual requirements and ensuring the necessary level of engineering assurance is achieved.
This role will require you to work as a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), to review, verify and/or lead the production of signalling design as part of a signalling design team, providing guidance and leadership to staff, including strong technical support in regards to the production, verification and mentoring of design deliverables.
Support the Rail Leadership Team with additional duties as required such as; resource management, continuing professional development of their team, progress/programme reporting, tendering new works, production of guidance notes etc.
You will be responsible for:
- Coordinating engineering works and management of interfaces between different railway disciplines.
- Ensuring designs are delivered to the highest quality, meeting all governance and assurance requirements, and are delivered on schedule and within budget.
- Managing design resources to meet project plans and budgets.
- As Design Manager and/or Design CRE, lead the delivery of signalling design projects, work packages and design commissions.
- Providing input to estimates / tenders were needed.
- Effective collaboration with stakeholders and project team.
Providing mentorship and support to drive continuous development in the team, including own CPD.
What you’ll bring
- Self-motivated, working proactively and with a proven record of working effectively under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical solutions to those without familiarity of railway signalling systems.
- UK signalling design experience, including knowledge of UK railway mainline standards, design processes and procedures for a variety of signalling systems, at both development and detailed design stages of delivery.
- Experience of signalling design management across the various design stages.
- Experience of satisfying the CDM and CSM requirements
- Holds (or are working towards) IRSE 7.8.110E Engineering Manager (Design) Licence
- Holds CRE competency in line with NR/L2/RSE/02009/01, including experience in undertaking the role on a variety of projects.
- Holds (or are working towards) Professional Qualification - IEng or CEng.
- Effective team player and collaborator.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Experience working in a Common Data Environment.

- Promote health and safety best practice to Discipline teams though regular team briefs
- Ensure that procedures and systems are in place so that all projects are undertaken in a safe manner and project designs are compliant with health and safety legislation.
- Taking an active part in monthly QHSE meetings through sharing relevant health & safety information with others and identifying and prioritising QHSE issues that affect rail and the wider business.
- Reporting on unforeseen risks that may emerge during the course of their work using the appropriate systems
- Identify and manage risks throughout the design process and project lifecycle
